@firepvp1021  Sims 4 might have some audio processing code (not sure on this). Take a look at this post - Sims 4 no sound bug  Take a look a that post and see if anythings helps. When you plug in the buds the computer may not configure the sound correctly if the chip is not identified by the game. The game checks for a hardware change evertime you start the game.

I'll try some of the things there either later today or tommorow 

 But why do you think it only started when I updated?

Could it be that when I updated some file got corrupted?

@firepvp1021  Here is another post you might look at - Sims 4 sound issues  Some of the fixes are making the game reset the sound settings. I think your problem have more then one possible solution.
