My game gets slow when I'm in live mode

When I'm creating a character the game works completely fine. The problem is when I try to actually play the game, It gets really slow and glitchy, and it doesn't work the way it used to. When I first downloaded the sims this wasn't a problem. This started about a year ago. If I keep playing while this is happening, it exits the game without saving. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me?

@liveesimmer is this about The Sims 4 or The Sims 3?

Either way could you post a DxDiag? This gives us a bit more information into your system and what is going on.
