Moving files from C drive to D Drive.

★ Novice

Hello! My laptop is currently running low on space on my C Drive. Unfortunately, that's where all my sims stuff is. My D drive is the one with a lot of space so I just want to move everything over there. How can I move it without disrupting everything including mods? Would I have to move origin to my D Drive as well? I tried to just copy and paste, but the EA folder just ended up in my C Drive anyways.

Thank you! Let me know if you need any laptop specs.

Re: Moving files from C drive to D Drive.

@Neonasaurus  There are two Sims 4 folders on your computer, one with the game's installed program files (usually in Program Files (x86)\Origin Games), and another with your user data (always in Documents\Electronic Arts).  You can move either folder or both, but copying and pasting doesn't work for either one.

It sounds like you're only trying to move the user data folder though.  To do that, the simplest approach is to redirect the entire Documents folder to D; this is easy and supported by Windows.

If you have other reasons to keep Documents on C and want to move only the Sims 4 folder inside, you can use a symbolic link.  Be sure to back up your data beforehand though, just in case.  This guide was written with an external drive in mind, but it works equally well on an internal drive.
