Lagging, freezing, and jumpy Sims. Sims 3. [ Edited ]

Guess I'm waaayyy off (2014)!! But am having the SAME problem! Lagging, freezing, shutting down for NO apparent reason. Whats the fix....anyone.....everyone??!!

There are a number of causes for lag, freezing, and crashes, and therefore a number of potential fixes, not all of which will apply.  It would help narrow things down if you could run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here (use the Browse button).
