Invalid license. Reason code = Missing DLL: [MSVCP120.dll] Error: 0xC1

★★ Novice

Hello!

I recently purchased and installed The Sims 4 on the website and installed Origin along with it.

After the installation process has been completed, I open the application and it shows a dialog box saying:

"Invalid license. Reason code = Missing DLL: [MSVCP120.dll] Error : 0xC1"

I've researched and watched several YouTube videos regarding and "resolving" the issue.

I've installed or repaired Microsoft Visual C++ (other words.. i forgot) and restarted my laptop several times.

I reached the point that I should repair my game in the Origin client.

It took only a minute or two since I haven't even entered the game at all.

I hope that there is a valid and working solution.

I don't want to think that I spent money on a game that doesn't even want to cooperate.

To the people who are doing things to resolve this problem, thank you.

The world is already full of negativity and gaming gives me positivity.

Regards, hellobye277.

@hellobye277  Please specifically uninstall and reinstall both copies of the 2013 VC++ runtimes.  Repairing is often not enough, especially if the files originally came from a non-Microsoft source.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the 2013 versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on each one, and select Uninstall.  Then download both the x86 and x64 copies from here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

You don't need the _arm version—that's for another class of device—but make sure to install both the others.  Restart your computer before trying to launch the game again.  It's a good idea to run Origin as an admin as well: right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator."

If you get a different error instead, or even if it's basically the same but isn't specifically about MSVCP120, please post a screenshot.

hey @puzzlezaddict

thanks for replying!

I've done all the things in your reply and it had another pop-up dialog box saying:

"The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP100.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

There's another one but with MSVCR100.dll

I've attached a picture I took when I encountered it.

thanks again for replying.

Re: Invalid license. Reason code = Missing DLL: [MSVCP120.dll] Error: 0xC1

@hellobye277  The 100 in the first error refers to the 2010 VC++ runtimes, and the 140 in the second error to the 2015 runtimes.  Same deal as before: uninstall the version(s) you have, download new ones from Microsoft.

2010 x86:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

2010 x64:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13523

2015:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If you still get another error, please post a screenshot, as before, and post a dxdiag as well.

@hellobye277  I'd need to see the full dxdiag, not just the screenshots.  Please run it again, then on the initial screen, click "Save all information," and save the .txt file to your desktop.  You can attach it to a post as you did with the screenshots.

Re: Invalid license. Reason code = Missing DLL: [MSVCP120.dll] Error: 0xC1

@hellobye277  The dxdiag crashed while running, and because of this, some critical information is missing.  So there's a bit of guesswork from the errors and the fact that the dxdiag didn't run properly.  Start by running a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files.

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here

Restart your computer, and install the newest driver for your graphics chip, which you can get directly from Intel:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29804/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=751...

Restart again, and see whether the problem is still present.  If it is, please run a new dxdiag.
