I need to restore my entire laptop , will my sims families be saved ?

@donutsXcupcakes  You can save all of your user-generated content—saves, builds, created sims and families, etc.—by backing up your Sims 3 game folder (the one in Documents) to an external source before you wipe your computer. Once you reinstall TS3, launch it once to make sure that it works, and then you can copy the content from your old game folder to the new one that will be created.

 

Your saves are in Saves, your households and lots are in Library, and any sims you saved in CAS are in SavedSims.  For a full list of everything in your game folder, please see Crinrict's guide:
