I can't see options when starting a new game

Hello. I just updated my game (PC). I haven't played since June of last year. The game now lags a lot and is very slow. I tried to start a new game but there are some options (sorry I'm not sure what it's called) that is supposed to be in the middle of the screen but they are stuck to the left. I can click on it and music still plays in the background but I can not see what it says. Thank you in advance.

@pelitlys Thank you this is exactly what’s happened. I’m just going to restart the whole game though because it’s full of CC’s and I get scared of those question marks.
