I can't read a book to a child or put books in my sim's inventory.

I am trying to complete my child sim's whiz kid asperation, but I can't get the read to child action to appear and I can't put books in my sim's inventory. Can someone please help?

I can't drag the books from the sim's bookshelf without using build mode. I go to the library and I can drag the books, but I still can't drag them into the sim's inventory. The only books that come up with "put in inventory" are the ones that have already been in the sim's inventory.

Now the books in the library won't drag when I click and hold. Is this a bug?
