How well do you think this PC would run The Sims 3 packs CC?

[ Edited ]

Hi there!

I was wondering if this PC would be good for Sims 3 plus packs and CC. I am on a budget (under AUD$400). Thank you for reading!

Here is a link to the product:

@cementsocks  Something like this would be good:

The most important detail, aside from the vendor's rating and whether the computer still works (as opposed to "parts only"), is the processor; I've already listed good options in your price range.  If you can get it, 16 GB RAM is also great, as this one has, but it's not absolutely necessary.  There are lots of "buy it now" offers for laptops with an i5-1135G7 and 8 GB RAM, and a few cheaper than that, so you should be able to find something suitable.

This is an example of an alternative option if you want more storage and about the same performance:

@cementsocks  I would guess that the answer is "not very well."  I can't be completely sure because the product page doesn't list the exact processor, but machines in this category almost always come with processors that have integrated graphics chips that can't handle Sims 3.  They generally run the base game okay, and maybe the first two or three expansions, but not more than that.

Are you set on a desktop, or would you be willing to consider a laptop?  I searched Ebay Australia for laptops with an Intel i5-1135G7 processor, whichi is confirmed capable of handling high-ultra settings (I have two users whose reports I trust), and there are options below $400 AUD.  I wouldn't consider a Dynabook, but a Dell/HP/Lenovo would likely still be in good condition if the original owner didn't damage it.  This is a laptop processor, so you wouldn't find it in tower desktops, just the occasional all-in-one.  But if a large screen is important to you, it would be easy enough to hook it up to a laptop.

Other suitable processors that might be in your price range would be the i7165G7, the Ryzen 5 5500U, and the Ryzen 7 4700U/4800U/5700U/5800U.  The important detail is the CPU because that dictates what integrated graphics chip you get.

Hi there, thank you for replying. Standard smile

Yes I am willing to go for laptop. I just assumed a desktop would be better. May I ask for those 2 options that you would consider? (Thank you for looking, by the way!)

Edit: Ooh what about this one? (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/335608661238?_skw=refurbished&epid=14048678928&itmmeta=01JAYRVCVHGX02T0S...)

Re: How well do you think this PC would run The Sims 3 packs CC?

@cementsocks  Desktops are more powerful than laptops for the same price, when new.  It's an entirely different story when used for a lot of reasons that aren't really relevant here.  I could still look for a desktop for you if you want, but I can say for sure that there are a lot of refurbished desktops out there that are fine for browsing the web and checking email but shouldn't get anywhere near an even mildly-demanding game.

This laptop you've linked isn't any better than the desktop, in all likelihood.  Its processor is okay, but the graphics chip is old and slow.  (The CPU was released in early 2017.)  The processors I listed are from 2021 or later.  You're not going to find an integrated graphics chip older than that that's anywhere near those in performance because both Intel and AMD made significant improvements to their integrated graphics at this time.  A high-end dedicated graphics card that's a bit older would be faster but also more expensive.

@puzzlezaddict Ok, I'm ruling out desktop as an option. I'd really appreciate it if you could link me to a laptop or two on eBay that would be compatible, really appreciate it. I'm just so desperate to get my hands on my own computer (currently borrowing a relative's!)
