Hi;
A few things to try to resolve this issue: (Before you attempt any of these, restart your computer to try out first to clear out possible conflicting tasks.)
1: Make sure there's not multiple instances of Origin in the Task Manager. (Having two instances can cause the game to crash.)
2: Check to see if you've installed any Mods that might conflict with the game. A good tactic is to move all your mods out temporarily and remove the localthumbcache.package file. See if the game runs after that; if it does, put your mods back in and see if the game still acts up. If it does, take your mods back up, remove the package file as before, but only include half of your mods to eliminate possible mod conflicts. Repeat this process until you've drilled down to the offending mod.
3: Run a Repair on Sims 4 through Origin.
4: Perform a factory reset on Sims 4 without reinstalling. (Steps here by crinrict)
5: Make sure all of your drivers are up to date. (Graphics drivers, Sound drivers, etc.)
If you're still having issues after this point, I would advise you to provide a copy of your dxdiag.txt file so that we can see computer specs in more detail.
