Hello, so I was able to launch Sims 4 version 1.46.18.1020 some hours ago but since then I haven't been able to play because whenever I start the game, it just crashes on a black screen. Literally nothing appears but a black screen after launching it.
What I've already tried:
- Cleaned up the documents folder (including Mods, CC and such)
- Resintalling the game
- Disabled Origin to not run in-game
- Deleted Default.ini
- Cleaned Origin's cache
- Changed Windows compatibility
- Updated GPU drivers
I really don't know what to do now
My specs:
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
CPU: Intel Core i5 4430S @ 2.7 GHz
RAM: 16 GB 1333 MHz CL9

Please remove all Mods and CC then test the game without.

@sijn420 I had this happen to my last night. At first I thought it was my mods too but found out it was not. I got it fixed by deleting the origin cache
steps can be found at
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
It took a while to validate the files but afterwards it worked

Your video card is higher end, have you tried to play in Windowed mode?
Start the game in Windowed mode:
In Origin - Games Library tab, right-click on Sims 4 and select Game Properties - In the Command Line Arguments, add the following text: -w and click Okay.
If that doesn't work. Have you tried a Sims 4 factory reset? - It's where you reset your user folder for Sims 4.
Move the Sims 4 folder to the desktop or rename it to something like Sims4_Backup. The game will create a new folder next time you play.
- Renaming it or moving it to the desktop will help you have a backup and keep your Sims 4 files safe.
Repair the Sims 4 game. In Origin > Game Library - right-click on Sims 4 and select Repair.
Try playing the game with a new save, without mods or other saves. If it works okay, then start putting files and folders back.
If it does not work, do not save.
Here's the list of files/folders to put back:
- Options.ini (User game settings)
- Tray Folder (Sims/Houses/Commercial lots and rooms)
- Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
- Rest of the save games, if any.
(leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave. It is not used anymore.)
- Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, and makeup
- Mods (Put these back one by one to make sure they all still work)
More information - Resetting the game to factory settings without reinstalling

If you move or rename the Sims 4 folder, the game will no longer be able to find it. When you go to play the game it will create a new folder.

Hey @mrz428,
I understand that you're having issues with your game crashing when you start it up.
But this thread has been inactive since 2018 and your issue might actually be different from what it was back then. So, I'm locking it and I would ask you to please start a new thread where you give us a few more details about the problem you're experiencing, for example:
Since when is your game crashing?
Are you playing via Origin or Steam?
What are your specs?
What steps have you taken so far (e.g. remove all mods/CC, repair game, clear Origin cache, update the Origin client ...)
Thanks,
Leeloo
