I know this has already been posted about but i've had no luck with the suggested things...I have unchecked 'play origin in game' in the origin settings and on the game itself. I have checked my computer for viruses and that's not the issue. I have no idea how to back up my game either so that's useless to me.
Any help would be much appreciated as i'm getting frustrated with problem after problem with this game!
Many thanks!!

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199
You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files and make a backup.
Good Luck

i've sorted it by deleting all my custom content

Is it giving you any sort of error message when it freezes?
Lets try following this article: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/
After following those steps - try to run the game and report back here

It's probably just one or two pieces. If you want to keep your cc, weed through it to see what is breaking the game.
Mods definitely need checking/updating.

Whoops looks like I misread his response. Glad you were able to resolve the issue.
