Family Icons Gone

My family is unplayable after returning from Egypt. Wasted weeks of time building this family and it’s ruined 😒 Is there anything I can do to fix it?

tried quitting and restarting, tried switching households... tried resetSim command

@Whedonesque  There's no way to recover the current progress when the user interface fails to load properly like that—the data is too corrupted.  But you can always revert to a previous save, if you have one, or if you haven't overwritten the automatic backup that the game creates.  Please let me know whether you've saved after your sims came home, and whether you've done so more than once.

There are also ways to try to prevent the travel transition from breaking this way, if you do have a previous save you can load.
