@klara_klaucova I wished I knew what's causing this error. Do you start through Steam now or Origin ?

Did you have a chance to try a folder reset ?

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

Sims 4 - Initialization error at startup

★★ Novice

Recently got a new laptop, installed origin, installed my previously bought Sims 4 games. Tried to play it and got error:

Unable to start:

Initialization error at start up.

Have tried loads of things

* Removing Sims, reinstalling

* Removing Origin, reinstalling

* Using Ccleaner

* Opening as Administrator

* Troubleshooting compatibility

Not sure what else to try. Attached results from DxDiag:

Thanks for your help.

Re: Sims 4 - Initialization error at startup

Haven't got a firewall / virus protector yet, so would only be using inbuilt Virus and threat protection (have already gone into there and Controlled Folder Access if definitely turned off).

Also have tried just clicking "Repair" on game through Origin.

Have attached full error number.

Thanks for the help.

@phoebus9295 That's unfortunately the one where it's unclear what's causing it. I merged your thread with the current thread

So far people had most luck trying to repair VC++ Redist or even reinstalling it.

@crinrict

Thanks! This seemed to work:

* Uninstalling the 2015-2019 VC++ Redists, installing again

* Restarting

Didn't work after this so had to also:

* Uninstall Origin and reinstalling again

Now its working!
