Does anyone know if ts4 would run on this laptop??

★ Novice

Hiya! Im attempting the find myself a laptop but my family is,,, interesting. I can only get a samsung because they're those kind of people and im struggling to find one at a reasonable price.

We've found the Galaxy Book Flex Alpha but im just not sure it will run well. I usually play the sims on medium settings with a pretty large mods folder on a shared pc, does anyone know if this would be functional?

Thanks for your time!

@hazel_harvelll  Sims 4 should run on that laptop, but really only on medium settings at best.  The integrated graphics chip isn't built to handle even a moderate workload.  On the other hand, it's not a bad choice for $400.  Additionally, I looked at the Samsung website and a few other computer sellers, and I didn't see anything better from Samsung for anywhere near the same price.  Unfortunately, it seems like Samsung has stopped making the models with entry-level dedicated graphics cards, or else now puts those cards in more expensive models.

The bottom line is, I would absolutely not buy this computer for Sims 4 if I had my choice, but if you're truly unable to look at other brands, it's a workable option.

@hazel_harvelll  For $700 U.S., you have a number of much better options, including some entry-level gaming laptops.  (I thought you were shopping in the U.S. based on the URL for the laptop you linked, but let me know if you're elsewhere.)  For example, this one is $600 and would run Sims 4, all packs included, on ultra graphics settings, with some room to spare.  It does only have a small 256 GB hard drive, but that's enough for the game and all the custom content you could download, plus plenty of smaller apps like browsers.

Since I don't know which brands your dad might object to slightly less than others, here are a pile of links to similar laptops from various other manufacturers.  A couple are back-ordered or "coming soon," but the wait would certainly be worth it if you could get one of those instead of the Samsung.

Other than the varying amounts of storage, these laptops have pretty much the same hardware and, game-wise, would be in the same performance category.  The Dell has a slightly faster graphics card than the others, and the Dell and Lenovo have a slightly stronger processor, although the extra processing power won't make any difference to Sims 4.  The faster graphics card may down the road, but any of these GPUs would be far and away faster than the one in the Samsung.  For reference, this is how the two cards compare in various benchmarks, and in a number of games:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/UHD-Graphics-620-vs-GeForce-GTX-1650-Mobile_8098_9828.247598.0.html

You don't really need to sift through the synthetic benchmarks; the fps in gaming is more interesting.  Sims 4 is on the list, although only for the UHD 620 in the Samsung, and that particular test was almost certainly done with only the base game, not with any of the more demanding expansion packs.  The point is, an Intel UHD 620 can't even really compare with an Nvidia GTX 1650 in any sense.  It can't even really compare with some of the faster integrated chips out there, for example the G1/G4/G7 chips in some newer Intel CPUs or the Vega 8 chips in some AMD processors.

If you want to try to convince your dad, perhaps the most important point is that the Samsung is absolutely not built for even moderate gaming.  Its graphics chip and even the processor itself weren't made to handle that kind of load, and its cooling doesn't compare to that of a gaming laptop either.  Playing Sims 4, or running any demanding app, for long periods at high internal temperatures can wear out the components and shorten the lifespan of a laptop by a significant margin.  There are certainly steps you can take to mitigate the damage, but the better option would be to buy a laptop that's built to handle the workload.

If the above laptops aren't really what you're looking for, let me know what features you'd like to see, and I'll do another search.
