Desktop displays and freezes game, then returns to normal

my game constantly freezes for 1 or 2 seconds, displays my computer desktop and then gets back into the game again.

I play on a new MSI laptop which should have the ability to play the game with no issues. I have tried changing settings and have even deleted and re-downloaded the game and expansion packs etc.

it’a really frustrating and making the game unplayable

has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix?

This happens at least once a minute and is usually triggered by me doing an action (like placing a room)

Try reinstalling your graphics drivers (use DDU)

Unsuccessful driver installation is a very common issue in new laptops purchased.
Look for drivers for this on Google by pasting the manufacturer's name, card name and the word "drivers"

If you have two cards in your laptop, be sure that the game uses the better one. You can check it in the Config text document. This file is in your game folder in Documents.

If you have Nahimic program, disable it while you play the game or uninstall.
