Create a Sim - Sim turning Black?

★★★ Newbie

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.80.69.1230
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Seasons, Get to Work, Discover University, City Living, Parenthood, Realm of Magic, Vampires, Toddler Stuff, Kids Room Stuff
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Open the game, go to create a sim, try play for more than five minutes and the bug occurs.
What happens when the bug occurs? The screen starts to glitch, the sim won't move, then if you try to change clothing it will turn completely black and nothing can be done to undo it, everything just glitches until you have no choice but to quit.
What do you expect to see? My sim not to turn into a nightmare void.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I'm not sure if this occurred after the game updated or what, last time I tried to play was on the 18th and a similar thing happened, but I quit before the sim turned black. It may also coincide with me updating sims 3 into the updated bit version, but I don't see how that could be possible. I haven't played in a few weeks and the only sims related thing I did in the meantime was check if the sims 3 ran. I also checked and live and build mode seemed to work fine, but I didn't stick around too long. I also don't have any mods or CC, I played around with a few but I removed them long before this bug occurred.

I genuinely don't know what could have caused it, I even repaired the game and checked for updates before I tried to play today.

HI @Sim3Cool

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

  • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
  • Tray Folder
  • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
  • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
  • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
  • ConfigOverride, if you have your own configuration files.
  • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

Good Luck
