Cats and Dogs Keeps Crashing in the Sims 4

Whenever I open Sims 4 and go to create a new household and add a pet, while I’m creating a pet the screen freeezes and then turns black for about two seconds. This happens 2-5 times before the whole screen turns white and an error comes up saying that the digital editing it not working(something like that). I can only adopt and I can’t even add a collar to a pet, it’s that bad. Please try and help. I’m getting extremely frustrated.
