Cannot Launch Sims 4 CAS Demo

★ Apprentice

When I launch the demo, it usually hangs before bringing up the ESRB screen. Used to just take a few tries to get in. Good news is, it's gotten a lot more consistent, can't get in at all now, and I've been trying a lot the past few days, I'd like to be able to play the full game.

It launches to a black screen, and stays that way. If I wait 20 seconds, or even 10 minutes, and click anywhere on the black, it turns gray, and Windows kindly lets me know it's not responding. I'm not seeing any llamas, but I did try the -w in Game Properties, no change

I've updated my Nvida drivers, and the Realtek audio drivers, no change. I've tried some clean-boot troubleshooting, disabling all non-MS services, and all startup items, no change.

I've run virus scans and malware scans, nothing found.

My system definitely exceeds minimum requirements. I’m running out of ideas of what else to try.  Can't include my DXDiag, too many characters. What would actually be useful?

Figured it out, sorry to waste everyone's time.

I started trying to figure out what could possibly make my machine different from everyone else's. Software I have installed for work. The first thing that popped to mind after that realization, was in fact the culprit. Netmotion Mobility XE Client. It’s a secure VPN client. Apparently, even when it’s not running at all, it’s got hooks so deep in Windows networking stack it can break things… even when Origin is running offline.

Anyway, uninstalled that, now I can launch the CAS Demo, all is right with the world.

Thank you so much for helping crinrict and rumbutter. Since the problem seemed to be only me, I really should have thought of that sooner… I foolishly thought if it wasn’t running, it wasn’t the problem. Silly me.

for someone to look at your DxDiag the DxDiag can be split up into seperate posts or posted to pastebin.com and link it here split the whole thing up in multiple posts and c/p from the text file to a new post in your thread

Hero

Specs look good

Could you post this info:

  1. Click on Start and then type the following into the search prompt at the bottom: perfmon /rel
  2. Press Enter to proceed.
  3. A window will open and in there you can click on the red circles with a white X.
  4. After clicking the X, the info on the bottom will update. Choose the Sims 3 Critical Event one and right click on it and choose "View Technical Details"
  5. Now on the next window, choose Copy to clipboard at the very bottom and post this into a reply to us here.

Good Luck

Re: Cannot Launch Sims 4 CAS Demo

No luck. Had already tried running as Administrator, and clean boot, tried again for fun, still not working. Hadn't thought of compatibility mode. Tried XP and Vista, only change was that Windows no longer told me the program stopped reponding, had to go into Task Manager to see that, and kill it.

I'm just not seeing anything wrong with my system, but this doesn't seem to be wide spread. I don't get it. The only changes I can think of from when it was working some of the time, to not working at all, were updates to the Origin client (which I sort of hoped were going to magically fix my problem).
