Cannot Intersect Objects?

Why is it that, when attempting to put a mirror on the wall above an object placed AGAINST the wall (i.e. a desk/fire place/bed) it wont let me place it JUST BECAUSE the freaking object is against the wall? Even if the mirror is WELL ABOVE the object on the ground?! I never had this issue with the Sims3! PLEASE tell me this will get fixed, because you have NO idea how irritating it is! 

Also, on a side note, some windows don't have curtains/blinds/shades for them? Which is odd, but yeah, just thought I'd state that.
