sims 4 cannot connect/go online

Hi there!

Im composing this post because I cannot find a solution to my problem anywhere. I have always been able to use the online features with the sims 4, until about a week ago, when it suddenly came offline of it's own accord, and can no longer connect. (error message - Could not connect, would you like to try again?) This is frustrating because I have tried all suggestions:

- logging out of, and back into, origin. (which is actually online, no problem, it's just the game I'm having issues with.)

- the problem is not my mac firewall because it wasn't even turned on (didn't realise until I had this issue!)

- I disabled adblock in case that was causing conflict, no change.

- reset my router

I have also read something about clearing your DNS cache but to be entirely frank, I have no idea what the heck that is? Willing to try if someone can explain.

please help, my game has been rendered boring as all heck without my online features!
