sims 3 unknown error

I bought sims 3 for my mac via origin. I downloaded and installed the game like normal. Upon trying to play the game an error message immediately popped up that said "unknown error has occurred". I have not been able to play the game. If I try to uninstall the game the game does not show up as a game to select to install so I have to drag all the files to the trash can. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Nothing helps! I've tried several forums and videos, and even contacted EA who just told me to uninstall and reinstall which is obviously no help. Hopefully someone here can help!

@stirwizzle  There are several causes for the unknown error, and several fixes you may need to apply, depending on your graphics card and which packs you're installing.  But first, you should start with a clean uninstall.  If you don't remove the game's hidden library files (which the uninstaller will miss even when it's working correctly), the game may fail to launch going forward.

Next, install the base game only, and run the Super Patch (digital download version) to manually patch the game to 1.67.  The launcher doesn't handle this process very well, and besides, running the Super Patch on an already patched game won't hurt.

Since I don't know your specs or which packs you own, I'm not sure which steps will apply to you.  But if the patched base game runs, you can skip step 2 and start installing your packs, applying the workarounds in steps 4 and 5 if necessary.  If the base game doesn't run and you'd like help with editing the .sgr files, please post your mac's specs here, along with the device ID of your graphics card.  Here's how to find that info:
