sims 3 64 bit aging lock

under the "game options" tab, free will is editable, but the lifespan/aging bars are grayed out? this is not grayed out on the original game. I tried to use the bars anyway but are locked on normal (I want to play on epic). anyone else have this issue or knows how to fix it?

disregard I had gone into the options before loading a save/family and it was grayed out there. once I selected a save and was playing for a bit, I went into the options again and was able to edit the lifespan. keeping open in case someone else has this problem.
