my sims 3 has an unknown error

★★★ Newbie

EEEEEEEEEEEE

so i just got the sims 3, first time, haven't even played it yet. But when I click on it to play, it says 'unknown error occured'. I've seen another question about this, and saw the answer, but it won't let me click restore while in disk utility. Please help?!

Btw I have an iMac computer

Have you applied the Super Patch to your install?  Even if the game thinks it's patched to level 1.67, it's still a good idea to patch manually.

If you've installed Ambitions, Late Night, Fast Lane, or Outdoor Living, the Unknown Error message is to be expected.  There are two workarounds for it, and you'll likely need to apply both.

Since you're on an imac, you're likely facing a few compatibility issues.  Newer graphics cards are not supported by TS3; sometimes the card works, and other times, it is necessary to edit the game's .sgr files.

Additionally, you may have a processor that does not work well with TS3.  There are some graphics card/processor combinations that simply do not allow most people to play.  And every recent mac OS is incompatible with the game, although High Sierra seems to be causing even more problems than its predessors.  If the solutions that BluebellFlora has put together (linked above) do not work for you, please post your imac's specs here so that someone can try to help.  But you should know there's a chance that your computer will never allow you to play the game.
