I have a macbook air 13 inch, early 2014. The processor is 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5, with 4 GHB memory, 1600 MHZ DDR3. I have Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB with Mac Sierra installed and own Sims 4 no disk. I have tried re-downloading, using safe mode, and everything else that has been suggested but no matter what when I open origin, the icon bounces in the dock, then crashes and closes. No matter what I can't seems to fix this and I haven't been able to play since June 2016! I'm starting to get annoying and I need Origin to fix this, or do something to compensate for that fact that I cant play my 50 dollar game.

You need to edit a couple of graphics files to try and get the game running again. Your Intel Iris 6100 graphics are not supported in the game so are incompatible. This problem is exacerbated on Macs running Sierra. Please read the opening post in the stickied Mac thread regarding post-2013 Macs and the Sims 3 - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/Mac-Issues-playing-on-newer-post-2013-Macs/m-p/4935394#U4935394
There is no guarantee the workaround will fix your game I'm afraid but it's worth trying

Have you tried the Origin reset tool? https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/

I'm also having issues starting my Sims 3 game.
I have a Mac 2012 macOS Sierra Version 10.12.3
Processor 2.9 GHz Intel core i7
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk Macintosh HD
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB
I have 388.56 GB available of a total 748.93 GB
I upgraded from El Capitan where I was able to run Sims 3 university life, supernatural, and high end loft stuff with no problems at all. Once I upgraded to MacOS Sierra, I can no longer even run the game at all. The startup play button does not pop up. I tried moving the Sims icon to the desktop like you mentioned, and that finally made the play window appear, however when I tried to press play it freaked out, went all black, and shutdown/restarted my computer on its own. I will try uninstalling/reinstalling now, but just was afraid I might not be able to use the same registration codes again.
Please let me know if anyone finds anything out!

Since I upgraded to Sierra from El Capitan I am able to just get past the plumbob screen then the screen goes completely black with only a white cursor and then the game stops responding. Nothing happens. Everything stays black. The game wont load and I can't even get it to quit without manually shutting down my computer. I have tried moving the game to the desktop, deleting sims preferences and starting over, playing from origin instead of disk (I usually play from disk). Nothing is working.

Sims 3 won't launch on my Mac once I downloaded my expansion packs.
I have a MacBook Pro and it's only a few months old.

@hhanson8594 @frecklesfiligree
Unfortunately any updates to the OS are now risking a game as old as Sims 3 from not working. The game has not been updated since January 2014 when the latest release of OS X was 10.9.1 Mavericks. Therefore any subsequent updates are not supported. There are tips in the Sims 3 stickied help thread on this forum that may help but no magic fix
Can you be more specific? What Mac do you have? Which version of macOS are you running? What EPs and SPs do you have installed?

macOS Sierra Version 10.12.3
iMac (Retine 5K, 27 inch, Late 2015)
Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M390 2048 MB
Bought this iMac a couple of days ago, as it had been in storage for a while an update was necessary.
Sims 3 and the expansion packs.
I have tried to download and install The Sims 3 base game as well as expansion packs University, Pets, Seasons, Late Night, Paradise, High End Loft Stuff but I can't even get the game to launch. If I attempt to open The Sims 3, it states there is an software update available. If I click yes, it will go on to update for 15/20 minutes then just crash without warning and no reason as to why. If I click cancel the software update, the game just quits with no error message or warning.

The Sims 3 doesn't play well in Sierra, as you can see from the myriad of other posters with issues
Have you tried patching the game manually?

Yes I have, and I've also changed the Firewall setting so origin won't be blocked but neither has worked unfortunately.
