I don't know how to help you. Last year I had a lot of problems with the Catalina beta (Origin wont download and SIMS 4 didn't work).

No problem at all with Big Sur. I downloaded Origin (yesterday It updated automatically to a new version) and I can play sims4 as usual with all my CC and mods.

Was it an upgrade to Big Sur or a clean install of the original app? I keep getting a prohibitory sign when trying to install the Origin APP

I fixed it. I used Microsoft edge browser and went to the origin page and downloaded an updated client. https://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download is the link to the download.

I'm baffled right now. I just installed Origin but when I go to launch, I get an error: 

“Origin” needs to be updated.

The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information.

Looks like I'm stuck waiting until alpha release.

Yeah, it seems that Origin doesn't properly work in Big Sur at the moment.

Do you know when it should start working again?

No idea. Big Sur is not a supported OS as it is in beta.
