Ive just reinstalled sims 3 along with my expansion packs back on to my MacBook air I had to uninstall due to space last year. Last night I set them all downloading again through Origin. This morning when I click on it there is something downloading despite the fact everything has finished and then proceeded to load the game and a unknown error occurred. also I have it downloaded on another computer but I've tried using the uninstaller but it wouldn't let me select which game I want to uninstall. I have attached the pictures of what I mean I'm rubbish at explaining.

@e_wilkinson The uninstaller is unreliable at best and can't be trusted to find all relevant TS3 files, so I wouldn't worry about it not working for you. But since you uninstalled last year, you may still have some leftover files that need to be removed before you can play properly. I know it's a hassle to start over with the reinstall, but as there are several reasons TS3 can fail to launch on a newer mac, it's probably best to eliminate this one as a potential issue.

Bluebellflora has written a comprehensive guide to installing TS3 on a mac, including fixes for the unknown error messages. You'll likely need to apply all of the fixes, including editing the game's .sgr files to force recognition of your graphics card.
If you'd like help with the .sgr files, please post your computer's specs here, along with the Device ID of your graphics card. Here's how to find the relevant information:

@e_wilkinson Did you try the .sgr file edit? Since your graphics card is probably newer than TS3, the game won't recognize it and will refuse to launch. This is often (although not always) fixable, and the edits you need to make may already be written out for you. But if you're not interested, no worries.
