The resolution 2048 1152 is what you suggested for me. I didn't have the flashing red screen on other resolution but I did with 1680 944. I changed back to 2560 1440, then the issue has gone. Also no problem with this resolution too.  Maybe your issue can be different to my case.

@aodoherty  I tried every resolution except for 1024x768, in both fullscreen and windowed, and didn't see a difference.  But maybe it has something to do with the operating system; I was testing in Mojave.  Thanks for the info.

@puzzlezaddict Also I upgraded to Big Sur 2 days ago, still working fine. Hope you can find the solution as soon as possible. Sorry but I cannot help you.
