TS4 crashing after selecting play household

So what happens is I open the the game open my save and then click the household and then when I click play it either freezes or crashes but no crash log or anything pops up. 

I play on Mac. I’ve already tried removing my mods/cc and even just deleting the ts4 folder (after backing up my saves) and it still keeps happening.

My game was working fine before I downloaded the paranormal stuff pack/patch update.

When you trashed the Sims 4 folder did you try a brand new clean game or did you immediately load up your saves again?
