TS3 won't shut down

Every time I go to exit The Sims 3 on my Mac, it stays on the black screen and I have to shut down my computer by holding down the power button to make it go off I don't think it's frozen because I can still move the mouse around, it just won't shut down the game or go back to my desktop screen. Any idea how to fix this?

Play in windowed mode by holding CMD and pressing the Return key during gameplay. When you next quit your game the black window won't be full screen so you can click on the Apple logo, top left in the menu bar, then Force Quit, then select Sims 3 in the pop up window and Force Quit.
