@weirdegy I need help! Every time I try to launch the Sims 4 on my mac, it just says "Unable to Start". How did you fix this problem?

I have a MacBook Air running macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Installed a new Sims4 yesterday.

I can't get past "The Sims4 is already running:

I've done mac updates, reinstalled both the game and origin. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Standard smile  Thanks

@Red13Flash

Please move your Sims 4 folder that contains your saves and other user data to the desktop and then see if you can launch the game.

Thanks for your help, but I had already tried that from previous posts.

Good news though. After a full day of various work-arounds I tried making a new user account and opening it from there. Worked first time! A crazy-easy solution. I'm not sure why it works, but it does. Yeah!!!

Thanks again.

How did you get it working? I have been having this issue for a while now, I even bought my own Sims 4 and stopped using my friends to see if that helped. It didn't Frown

I just made a new user account and it worked.

Click on Apple icon at top right of screen

Go to System Preferences

Choose Users and Groups

then make a new user (i made mine an Administrator account)

Then I did a restart of my Mac and logged in under the new user name. I launched Origin and choose Sims4 and PLAY.

Like I said, I don't know why it worked, but it did. Hope this helps.

@Munteax https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Info-The-Sims-4-macOS-Catalina-Troubleshooting/td-p/8...

I’m unable to start the game, I get a message that The Sims 4 is already running after I have updated to macOS Catalina - what can I do?

Try deleting/moving the UserData.lock file located in /Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4

and it works. no need to re-install
