Sims 4 won't shut down

I haven't had any troubles until today. I signed into Sims 4 as usual, then it got stuck on the loading screen. No matter what I do I can't shut down or quit the game. My Mac computer refuses to turn off and it has been stuck on the loading screen for almost an hour.

You can't even force it to turn off by holding down the power button?
