Sims 4 keeps crashing but I tried everything

★ Novice

Hi everyone,

I have a macbook pro that is around 7 years old and did the latest update yesterday (macOS catalina 10.15.2) because my game kept crashing and I thought it would solve the problem. But it turns out that the only thing it did was making my computer slower than it already was (and some sort of documents came along with it preventing me from using my mac smoothly, warning messages kept popping but I fixed this issue thanks to my brother).

So, my game keeps crashing and trust me I have tried EVERYTHING:

I repaired the game countless times

I removed all mods and CCs

I created a backup file and put my old one on my desktop

I deleted all the cache files

I uninstalled and reinstalled origin

I turned off origin in-game

I did the latest game update

My computer has a capacity of 500 GB and I have 418 GB available so this is not a storage problem...

Please help me I just bought the cats and dogs expansion pack and I don’t want this money to go to waste.

Thanks to anyone who will try to help.

@nour2507

Please can you provide more information about your Mac. Instructions on how to do so and what to provide here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612...

What else are you running on your Mac when you play, including background apps that launch at startup (check the icons in the top right corner of the menu bar)?

Re: Sims 4 keeps crashing but I tried everything

@nour2507

Thanks. I’ve merged your thread into this one as you have a 2012 Mac with Intel HD 4000 graphics, like the other posters. Updating Mojave seemed to fix the issue for most but interesting that Catalina is now an issue. It really could be something as simple as your Mac struggling to properly run the game, it is an old model.The Intel HD 4000 has caused other issues in the past with the game.

It may be worth uninstalling then installing just the base game and see how it performs. Test the game performance after installing each pack and see if performance slows and lags or crashes after adding each pack. Make sure you have automatic updates off in Origin.

Re: sims 4 November 2019 crashing Mac

@jessiemay21

Thanks. I've merged your post into this thread. As you can see there are quite a few reports now on 2012 model Macs with Intel HD 4000 chips. Make sure your Mac is up to date, the current version of Catalina is 15.3 so you shoal update and see if that helps. Ultimately though it's possible that now these 8 year old Macs are really struggling with handling the game. There were problems with these chips when the game was released back in 2015 on Mac.

Game crashing, 2012 13" MacBook Pro

[ Edited ]
★★★ Newbie

Hello,

I have found this thread as its the closest I can find to my issue, I have a feeling it is to do with the update for the university pack release.

My issue is when loading up a household it will full load and 1 minute later the whole thing crashes... highly irritating.

I have tried everything! And coming to the end of my nerves with it.

Sims 4 has been working on my laptop since the the release with CC not having a single effect on gameplay.

My Mac model is:

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)

2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

I have pretty much all of the additional packs and were working perfectly fine pre November.

I don't have the university or the living islands pack for information.

To date I have tried everything I have found on this thread, other threads and my own knowledge.

- Disabling iCloud Drive

- Uninstalling/ reinstalling Origin and Sims 4

- Disable Retina display in the in-game graphics options

- Enable Vertical Sync in the in-game graphics options

- Made a new user (it still crashed)

- taken mods out of the folder to my desk top.

- Moved the Sims 4 folder out of EA folder to my desktop... (it generated a new folder- surprise surprise... it still crashed when loading the household)

- tried just Lots - still crashed after a little bit longer than a house.

The latest 12/03/2020 update hasn't resolved the issue...

Please Please someone fix this Standard smile

Re: Game crashing, 2012 13" MacBook Pro

@ryley13

I've split your post as it is nothing to do with the issue you're having. It is very specific to 16" MacBook Pros, you have an 8 year old 13" MacBook Pro.

Which version of macOS are you running?

This might actually be your issue but I will wait for you to to confirm your OS before merging - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Sims-4-crashing-freezing-Intel-HD-4000/m-p/8486475#M2...
