Sims 3 won't launch on macbook

★★★ Newbie

I used to play Sims 3 on my macbook air with few problems, some issues with displaying certain item thumbnails etc but nothing major. However after not using it for a couple of months due to busy work, I can now no longer launch the game - when using the Origin launcher the sims icon will appear in the menu bar with the dot to show that its open for around 2 seconds, then fade away and disappear again. There is no error message.

I have tried clearing caches and reinstalled the game totally and it still will not open, my software is all up to date.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Champion

Have you tried launching the game from the game icon itself and through Origin? The game icon is found under Applications, The Sims 3. Open the folder and click on the green plumb bob. That should directly launch your game without having to open Origin.

Thanks for responding,

Yes I have tried all ways to launch the game including that, and it doesn't work with any of them! Base game nor with expansions. Have even tried the 'fix' for this where you alter the launcher in the package contents and it makes no difference. Just feel at a bit of a loss!

@HannahKWarming  When you uninstalled the game, did you manually remove the hidden library files?  If not, they might be interfering with your attempts to launch the game now.

The first thing to try is to pull your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents and onto your desktop.  If the game launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Once you confirm that everything works in the clean folder, you can move your saves and other content into it from your old folder.

It also might help to bypass the launcher entirely.

If none of this works, please post your computer's specs here, as described in this post:
