Hi guys!
Boy, I've been playing sims for a while now so I am used to technical issues surfacing, but this one has me stumped. I've been trying to read the other answers to this question but I've still been really confused on it.
A few months ago, I was playing sims 3 a lot with Late Night and Generations installed; it worked fine. Then, I tried downloading University Life, and suddenly I couldn't open the game due to the pop up "Unknown Error Occurred". I tried uninstalling everything, except keeping a small folder with my saves in it because I don't want to lose my progress. I left it for a few months because I was frustrated and now I'm trying again. I've installed and uninstalled the game twice now, once trying the base game + late night + generations (which didn't work), and then I uninstalled everything and tried again with just the base game (to which I got the Unknown Error Occurred again). After reading a few other asks on here, I downloaded the super patch 1.67 and updated the game with that, tried to open it, and I got the Unknown Error Occurred again. Please help me out, I really wanna play the game before school starts again!
P.s I've tried opening the game through Origin and through the application separately.
My computer details:
macOS Mojave
Version 10.14.6
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 MB
Thanks!!

@batcamclear There are several causes of the unknown error, all of which have different workarounds. So at this stage, it may be easiest to start with a fresh install of just the base game and proceed from there. Please use these instructions to do a clean uninstall of everything:
https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/
It's important to remove every single Sims 3-related file before reinstalling. (You don't need to delete your saves, just make sure the files stay out of the way.) Reinstall the base game and run the Super Patch (digital download version) to manually patch the game to 1.67.
https://bluebellflora.com/sims-3-manual-super-patch-for-mac-1-67/
Launch the game and see whether it works. If you still get the unknown error, stop here and let me know—the fixes below won't help unless the base game is working. If it is working, install Late Night alone, no other packs, and create an alias (icon) for it in Applications > The Sims 3, alongside the icon for the base game. This is simple enough:

Test again, and if you get an unknown error, stop here. Otherwise, install University Life (only, no Generations yet). You'll also need to copy a folder from Late Night into the folder for University Life, which may have been the missing step before. The video in this post shows how to do it:
If the game still works, you can go ahead and install Generations, and test. If you happen to have any other packs, let me know which ones; some of them need extra help to get installed properly.
P.S. You can just launch the game through Applications, without having Origin open. It doesn't make a difference.

@batcamclear Try adding your graphics chip to the game's database. Bluebellflora has provided instructions and the text for your Intel Iris 655 here:

If that doesn't work, create a new admin user account on your Mac and try to launch the game in that account.
