Sims 3 Seasons: Unknown error occured

★★★ Newbie

Hello! So, I’ve been having a whirlwind of problems with installing the Sims 3 expansion pack Sims 3 Seasons. I’ve been redownloading all of my owned expansion packs after upgrading from a 2010 Snow Leopard MacBook, to 2017 MacBook Pro Mojave. I’ve recently gotten back into playing the Sims 3 after owning this MacBook for almost 3 years. I’ve redownloaded all of my other expansion packs with no problem. (Generations, Showtime, Pets, and Late Night) However, during the installation process for Seasons, the product code would give me no_cd_key instead of the jumbled up mess of letters and numbers, rendering my installation process useless. So, I looked online and saw other people having the same issue, and one way they fixed the problem was Reset Origin. So, I did that. Still after resetting Origin, deleting the old application, and downloading the latest version of Origin from EA’s website, I still was having the issue.

I went onto EA help’s chat, and explained the problem. I was given a new product code and I had thought everything seemed to work fine, so we ended the chat session. Then I tried opening the game, which prompted the error message, Unknown error occurred. I then went back to another EA Help chat shortly afterwards, and he had instructed me to remove a folder called DownloadCache from Origins folder located in Application Support, and then run Ccleaner. However, the folder DownloadCache does not exist in my Origin folder.

So after the third chat with another EA help employee, he had me go to my preferences folder and delete The Sims 3 Preferences folder, all com.transgaming files, as well as ipatcher files and

Cider Preferences folder. However, I could not find the ipatcher files Cider Preferences folder. But I did delete the Sims 3 Preference folder and the com.transgaming. But even still, this did not fix my problem.

Is there anything else I can do to get my game running again? I’d really appreciate some more help on this. Thank you!

Re: Sims 3 Seasons: Unknown error occured

@lapis107  Even though it looks like Seasons is throwing the error, it's really Late Night that is causing it.  LN is one of four packs that don't install correctly, so you'll need to apply two workarounds to fix it.  But start by running the Super Patch to manually patch the game.

The first workaround is simple: create an alias for LN in Applications\The Sims 3, alongside the alias for the base game:

The second workaround is to copy a folder from Late Night into a folder for Seasons, which is your newest pack by the date EA released it.  The folder normally gets copied over, or rather a shortcut gets created to the original, but this doesn't happen for Late Night.  This video shows how to do it manually:

If you do these steps and still get an unknown error, please list the specs of your computer, as described in this post:
