Sims 3 64 Bit crashes on Load screen

[ Edited ]
★★ Novice

Hi,

I have Sims 3 64 Bit. I sent my sims to university and it crashes. They finished and now it crashes on the load screen when they're going back home. Bummer, it's super disappointing after all the work I did for them.

Re: Sims 3 64 Bit crashes on Load screen

@callmemisha00  I'm sorry, I wasn't really clear about the point of the deviceconfig.  I didn't need to see it; I needed to know whether your Sims 3 data was syncing inappropriately, for example if iCloud was downloading files from your old computer onto your current one.  That's why I asked about the file path: it would show whether the old file was in the wrong place, or you were just grabbing it from somewhere the game wasn't reading.  Data syncing can compound any other problems and should be fixed first.

Anyway, the underlying issue, the failure of the travel transition, can usually be addressed with some patience.  Please add NRaas Traveler and Register, delete the five cache files in your user folder, and try sending your sims home again.  If that doesn't work, you'll need to lower the stress on the game engine as much as possible:

  • Empty your sims' inventories as much as is reasonable: a few items is fine, a hundred is not.
  • Save the game a few sim-minutes before you want to send your sims home, or before they'll be forced home.
  • Exit to the Main Menu and turn all the graphics options down to the minimum, and disable the interactive loading screens and the in-game shoppint experience.  Then quit to desktop.
  • Delete the five cache files in your Sims 3 user folder: CASPartCache, compositorCache, scriptCache, simCompositorCache, and socialCache.
  • Put Origin in offline mode, then take your computer offline: disable wifi or disconnect the ethernet cable.
  • Load your save, let the game clock run for a few sim-minutes, then send your sims home.

If this doesn't work, you can send me your save, and I'll try to fix it myself.  Just list the store worlds you have installed, if any, and if your sims live in a custom world, I need a link to it as well.  You can post here or send me a private message.

Re: Sims 3 64 Bit crashes on Load screen

@callmemisha00  The deviceconfig you posted is from a completely different computer than the one you list, and it's also from the 32-bit version of Sims 3.  Where did you find the file?  If you're grabbing it from your 2018 Mac, that's actually useful information: it means that some of your old Sims 3 data is being synced with your new system, probably by iCloud.

On that note, please find that deviceconfig, or the folder it was in if you moved it, right-click and select Get Info, and list the file path you see under Where.

The issue itself is usually solvable in one way or another, but it's important to start by finding out whether some syncing process is complicating things.

Re: Sims 3 64 Bit crashes on Load screen

@callmemisha00  This deviceconfig is the same as the last one, in fact even the free memory at launch is the same, meaning the file hasn't updated.  Please let me know the file path to this deviceconfig, again by right-clicking and selecting Get Info.

You don't need to delete any sims.  If a file is in the Trash, it's not causing any harm, and your saves from the 32-bit version can be used in the 64-bit version.

I cleared the caches and that did the trick!

Thanks, you've also helped me with another solution in the past. You're a pivotal member in the Sims community because you help us more than EA.

Thank you so much!
