I just downloaded sims 4 on my macbook air and had no issues downloading it. When i click to play it starts up normally but when it gets to the main menu the screen goes from full screen to 1/4 size in the bottom left hand corner with the rest of the screen being black. I can only access the buttons by going to the spaces above in top left hand corner of the screen which is black and clicking on where the below buttons would be if the screen was in that above left hand space. It also causes the available screen area to be zoomed in so I only can access a small portion of the options. Even going back to my desktop all the icons and other open screens are zoomed in too, only going back to normal when I get out of the game. I know this sounds confusing but I can't find anything on any forum that is remotely similar to this. Help?

You could also try opening the game in windowed mode - Right click on the Options.ini file in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and choose TextEdit to open it with. Once opened, where it says fullscreen = 1, change the 1 to 0. Save if prompted.

I tried it but it is still doing the same thing. I should mention I'm playing it on a external hard drive.

Hmm, ok. Can you try installing on your internal Macintosh HD, see if that makes a difference? Running on externals can sometimes cause issues for various reasons.

I tried this as well, and also putting the Options file in the trash but it still happens.
Really appreciate your help so far - any other suggestions?

Did you cleanly install on your Mac's HD and start a brand new game? With nothing added from the install on the external drive?
Is your MBA a 2015 model?
March 2016
Yeh I fully uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
My MBA is 2013 not 2015. is that an issue?
Cheers

It may be depending on the full specs. Please can you provide more information about your Mac? Instructions on how to do so here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612...

I opened it up in TextEdit but the fullscreen option was already 1 so I left it.
