Origin closes while updating sims 4 [ Edited ]

I am trying to play the sims 4 and there is a new update available. The game says it cannot be played until I do the update. But whenever I try and update the game, origin closes and a window pops up saying "origin has encountered a serious problem and must close" I have tried the "repair" the game and the same thing happens. My computer is up to date, as is origin. I cleared the origin cache, I uninstalled and reinstalled origin and nothing has worked. I am on a mac and all of the answers I'm finding online are catered to windows. Help!!!

Clearing the Origin cache on a Mac is useless as it only clears a small number of files. Please run the reset tool and see if that helps - https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/ or, you can reset Origin manually - https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/
