New Mac M1 crash behavior

★★★ Newbie

Playing on a 2020 MacBook Air with the new M1 Chip

All of January and Feb, game worked fine. Suddenly last week, started getting spinning beach ball/freeze about 10-20 minutes into the game consistently. Packs but no custom content installed.

Here's what I've tried .. none of the below have had any effect on the crashing behavior:

  • vsync is and has always been turned on

  • tried windowed and full screen mode

  • I've removed Origin folder from /Library and reinstalled Origin

  • I've repaired the Sims install from Origin

  • I've removed and reinstalled Sims application

  • I've reduced graphics quality

Ideas?

@tchoup23

Lots of ideas yes (three actually). There is also a stickied Mac help thread in this Mac forum which lists troubleshooting steps. Stickied threads are always at the top of page 1.

Reset Origin manually - https://bluebellflora.com/how-to-uninstall-origin-on-a-mac/

Have you tried a new game by moving the Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Art so a new one is created? You will need to enable vsync again, maybe.

Disable Origin in-game.
