My MacBook Pro Keeps Restarting when I try to play the sims 4

★★★★ Novice

My MacBook Pro keeps restarting when I try and play the sims 4. The sims isn't crashing but the whole computer shuts down and turns back on.

Sometimes I can play for a bit and other times I can't get it to load.

It is basically a brand new laptop (just had a new hard drive put in due to a Mac problem). This is an issue I was having before hand though just not as frequently. I have tried a list of things and it still doesn't seem to be working.

It is currently running Catalina.

Things tried

- re installing origin

- re in stalling the sims4 (I just did base game at first but it still didn't work)

- there are no mods

- I turned off iCloud

- reset the PRAM

@Bluebellflora So I ended up calling apple support because it was shutting down while I wasn’t playing the sims. So I am like 99% sure it is not a sims issue at all.
I will have to send the computer in to apple again because the issue that was supposed to have been fixed turns out was not on top of this overheating thing. 😬
So sorry for the slow responses. Because the computer kept shutting down it was hard to get back to here.
I appreciate your help so much!

Please can you provide more information about your Mac. Instructions on how to do so and what to provide here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612...

Have you disabled Origin in-game?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

processor 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5

memory 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3

Graphics Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB

I am not playing legacy edition.

No antivirus programs

I have tried repairing the game in origin.

I have no mods or CC.

How do I disable origin in game?

At this point I'm struggling to keep the game open long enough to get into the options :-/

Here you go - https://bluebellflora.com/2017/12/23/disable-origin-in-game/

Are you playing on a hard surface so air can circulate underneath your Mac?

Do you have a lastCrash report in your Sims 4 folder you could attach here? Open it with TextEdit and remove the "XML" from the first line before uploading.

I googled how to disable origin and did that.

That was not the issue. I was able to get it going for about 10 minutes though.

@Bluebellflora I have a case on the bottom? Could that be heating it up too much? it has slots for air to escape. I will try it without that on.

I do not see a crash report.

@princesscait15

One of the hard shell cases? Yes! The laptops are designed to dissipate heat through the aluminium casing. That can't happen if it's snug in a plastic case. It may be overheating.

@Bluebellflora unfortunately that was not it. Unless something got messed up when they replaced parts. The battery was one of the things apple replaced.

@princesscait15

What exactly did they replace? Just the internal storage and battery or more? Your Mac has several power components and storage modules. Was this to try and fix the shutting down issue?
