I have the exact same iMac as you and the game works ok on it although the graphics aren't great and it's a bit laggy. You have the ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics right?
When you hover your cursor over the game in Origin does it say Play, Install or Download?
Have you right clicked on the game in Origin and selected Repair game?

When I hover my cursor, the only option I have (over and over again) is INSTALL.
The REPAIR GAME option is not available

Ok, can you try the following:
- In your Applications folder right click on the Sims 4 app and select Show Package Contents.
- Navigate to Contents > Mac OS
- There should be two files in there. Right click on The Sims 4 and select Move to Trash. Don't drag the file as it will only move an alias and leave the original in place. Leave the other file, The Sims 4.par, alone.
- Now open Origin, click on The Sims 4 in your Games Library and click on Download.
Has that improved things?
