Help - can't load previous games.

Hello, 

I'm sure this will have been asked and answered in the past but I can't seem to find/understand what I'm looking for. 

For at least the last 6months anytime I exit the game and then go back in to play I find that I am taken to the homepage without an option to load my previously saved games/households. Short of leaving my game running permanently I don't know what to do as I am getting totally fed up of losing my households and progress. 

I thought I'd had a breakthrough yesterday when I eventually uninstalled and reinstalled the whole thing. It let me load up the family I had just created once but then when I've logged back on this morning it's all gone again. 

How can I fix this?
