Crashing after Cottage Living Update

★ Novice

Hi! My game is suddenly crashing randomly after the Cottage Living update ...

It has never ever crashed before this update and I don't know what to do! I use mods but they are all updated and working fine :-(

Here is the crash message

@andrewstegmann

Create a new Sims 4 folder with no mods, saves etc. and see if it will load and play properly https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting...

I'm having this problem, too. I cleared caches, uninstalled and reinstalled Origin and then the game. Still crashed. And I didn't have my mods folder even in the library since I had just reinstalled it. I didn't think it was that anyway, since I hadn't added anything since before I was last able to open the game just after the update. Even updated my own computer and turned off Origin in game settings. The initial Sims 4 blue screen pops up, but it crashes right after the loading screen starts the plumbob spinning. Disappointed

@andrewstegmann I'm having the same issue. It works fine if I delete the Sims 4 folder and start fresh. I combed through my mods folder for three days and I had it loading to the menu fine but as soon as I opened the game the next time it crashed. As soon as I get the problem report from apple it's over. The game doesn't load regardless of whether or not my mods folder is empty.

@QuaylinSims @shamrockshake05

Do you have a lastCrash file in the Sims 4 folder from when the game last crashed? If so, please open in TextEdit and copy/paste the contents into a post here.

Clearing cache on a Mac is useless, you need to run the Origin reset tool https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/origin/origin/how-to-reset-origin-on-mac/

I am also getting a report from Apple when I launch the game, but I'm not sure if thats useful.

@QuaylinSims @shamrockshake05

Thanks both, really helpful Standard smile

@shamrockshake05 your lastCrash is still showing you have mods installed. Can you please try a new clean game by moving the Sims 4 folder to the desktop. Which Mac do you have? The GPU is unknown, is it an M1 Mac?

@QuaylinSims could you create a new user account on your Mac and see if you can play the game in that account? No need to reinstall the game, just launch Origin, login and launch the game from the Origin games library.
