Computer for Sims 3?

★★ Novice

Hi!

I have all of the Sims 3 games and use a smaller amount of cc/mods.
I already know about specs and what to look for in a computer, but I would like to know what laptops/desktops everyone else is using when they play?
As for now I haven't been playing for a long time as my laptop is aging and would probably crash if I tried to even install sims

@Thekyanos  Generally, a laptop or desktop Nvidia 1650 should be fine to run Sims 3 on ultra graphics settings; a desktop 1050 is usually also fine, although the laptop version of the card might not quite be able to handle ultra settings.  Any processor that comes with one of these cards should be fine, as should 8 GB RAM.  A solid state drive at least 512 GB is nice to have, although 256 GB is manageable if you're not going to play anything else.

What other people use though isn't always relevant—many players have bought or built their computers with other, more demanding, games in mind.  How much are you looking to spend, and in what currency?  I can give you an idea of what you might expect, or link a few good options, if you want.  Just let me know what other purposes, if any, this computer will have, and whether you'd prefer a laptop or desktop.

Thank you.

I only play Sims 3, but I do have all expansions and some cc so it would be nice if the computer didn't crash too often.
I do live in Sweden, but I'm looking for laptop or desktop (doesn't really matter as long as it works well) for around 800-900 dollars.

I'm not that well with specs which is why I asked for models/brands.

Re: Computer for Sims 3?

@Thekyanos  Sorry for the delay.  I wanted to find some good examples for you and ran out of time yesterday to do a search.

The single biggest factor in determining how well a given computer should run Sims 3 is the graphics card, and for your budget, the best card you can get is an Nvidia 1650.  Slower cards may struggle with the most demanding packs (Pets and Seasons especially), and faster cards are significantly more expensive.

Desktops will perform better for the same hardware, and they can be fully repaired or upgraded.  In contrast, a laptop's components are mostly soldered in, other than the RAM and storage, so there's no way to get a more powerful processor or graphics card.  So for gaming alone, you'll get better performance out of a desktop.  A laptop with a 1650 should still run all your Sims 3 content fine though.

I didn't see that many options for desktops in your price range, that is if you leave room for a standalone monitor.  These two should be fine though:

The first one has more storage, although 256 GB is more than enough for Sims 3.  The processors are both more than fine and pretty much equal for gaming.

As far as laptops go, there are a few in your price range that are mostly equivalent.  Here are the examples I saw:

https://www.elgiganten.se/product/gaming/laptop-gaming/262854/hp-pavilion-15-ec1816no-15-6-barbar-da...

The only relevant differences are the extra storage in some of the models and the slightly faster 1650 ti in the last one.  (It's a couple percentage points faster, but not really necessary.)  So the important question would be which one you liked best, that is if you decided to get a laptop.

Feel free to keep asking questions, and if you find something else you like, you're welcome to link it for a second opinion.

Thank you so much for all help.
I will look more into both the HP options (both the laptop and the desktop) and compare which I might get Standard smile
