Silly question maybe, but my poor old faithful Macbook is showing signs on giving up on me and it seems that I might have to go for a cheaper laptop option now if it's truly about to break.
Has anyone had to do similar change before and if so, what must I know beforehand? Am I able to keep my saved files? Can I download the game and expansions to a new computer with ease or what?

Copy over the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts to a backup drive. This contains all your saves etc. You can then copy it over to your new machine.
All your DLC is attached to your EA/Origin account so you just download Origin, log in using the same account details you purchased the game through and they should all show up in your games library
