Can't click on anything in game on Sims 4 [ Edited ]

Hi! I've tried to search a few times but can't find anything Mac specific. I'm terrible at technology to which doesn't help. 

For a few months I've had the issue that the game loads fine and I can play for a couple of minutes until then I can't interact with options or click on Sims. 

1) uninstalling, reinstalling the game

2) repairing game on Origin

3) emptying inventories

4) now running on a different Mac 

Any suggestions? Hope I haven't put this in the wrong place

Are you using a UI Mod? 

Does it become un-clickable or does it lag which makes it seem like you can't click?

@Bluebellflora Hi! No UI Mod (as I'm not sure if I even know what that is)

Item's highlight when I hover over them, but when clicked the actions don't pop up to select from.

The time has stopped also.

It first occurred after I bought a the Strangerville pack.

Can you move your whole Sims 4 folder from Documents > Electronic Arts to the desktop then launch a new clean game and see if it still happens? You will need to create a new household and move them into a lot as your game will be like new, your saves are in the folder you moved.
