I accidentally replaced my old mods folder with a new one and now I dont know how to retrieve the old folder back im on  MacBook Air any help?

Do you have any backups of your old Mods folder? If not then there will be no way to retrieve the old one.

i had a backup but it got replaced accidentally with the newer mod folder

A backup is normally separate from the actual file/folder. If you replaced the backup do you still have the original in the Sims 4 folder?

If you don't have a backup and you replaced the folder then there's nothing you can do. Replacing a folder overwrites the original.
