I have done the changes listed and now the app won't even open at all... it completely crashes every time.

@starbutterfly101

There is only one change listed to fix the freezing on M1 Macs, enabling vsync. What other changes did you make?

@Bluebellflora Hii! I got it working for a bit and it's just went again - I enabled vsync too. Mine's the baseline air running Big Sur 11.2.1

@jesslovesuu

Please can you attach the Config.log file from the Sims 4 folder?

Re: Sims 4 crashing (M1 Air)

@jesslovesuu

Thanks. As this thread is specifically for the CAS freezing issue which is fixed by enabling vsync, please can you start your own thread detailing exactly when your game is crashing because you are having a different issues. Make sure you also confirm that you have tried a completely clean Sims 4 folder (but immediately enabling sync again), as explained here - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting.... Please also repair the game.

Hello! What does vertical sync do?

@bluesatinsashes Most graphical libraries (especially ones used in games) have a notion of should I refresh the graphics as fast as possible or should I wait for the monitor to VSync and then draw a frame? A vertical sync is how your monitor physically changes the display and happens ~60 times a second (or so).

The thing that kills me is that I have no idea why this setting would cause the game to freeze. That type of display bug has been solved for more than 30 years. But whatever!

Re: why does my sims freeze after 5-10 minutes of playing

@Embem336

Your post has been merged into this ongoing thread on the freezing issues on the new M1 Macs. Please see the workaround on page 1 and enable vsync to fix it.
