@BluebellfloraI tried playing with online access disabled this time. The fresh save crashed immediately. But Origin is still acting like it's running, even though I can't see it.

@Bluebellflora Since Origin has been acting so weird, I tried changing a bunch of Origin settings and updating Origin. The fresh save immediately crashed.

@Bluebellflora This time I tried randomly changing some game settings. The game immediately crashed.

★★ Guide

@BluebellfloraI changed gfxCardStatus back to Dynamic Switching. I changed a bunch of Origin settings. I removed the Saves folder and the Tray folder so the game would generate new ones. I repaired the game after doing all of those steps. I created a fresh Sim and had him go to the area where I've been doing all of the testing: in front of Planet Honey Pop. Everything seemed fine. But when I exited, I got the same message that the game had quit unexpectedly, and Origin is still not closing properly.

I've had problems previously with the Library in game. Could this problem be related to that? Once it disappeared for no reason. The second time, it got corrupted when I transferred my files to the new computer. The News feed in the Gallery often does not display.

I am playing on a brand new computer, so there is almost nothing on it that could possibly interact with the game in any ways to cause this problem. I did install Chrome though.

Here is the most recent crash report:

@Bluebellflora I quit gfxCardStatus, since the crashing got worse after downloading it. I opened the most recent save and had my Sim travel to Brindleton Bay. Then I exited. I did not get the message that the game had quit unexpectedly, but Origin still did not close properly.

@BluebellfloraI reopened the same save and exited while the Sim was in front of Planet Honey Pop. When I exited the game, I got the message that the game had quit unexpectedly.

This is my system graphics:

AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

I reopened the game and toggled between full-screen and windowed displays several times. Before I could play the game at all, it crashed, and Origin did not close properly.

It appears that iCloud Drive has not yet been enabled on this device.

I have never had any problems with this device other than issues with The Sims.

It's annoying me that the tab on my browser shows that the title of this issue says that it is Solved. Should I post in another thread? I don't want EA to think this problem is actually Solved. Even the workarounds don't work. Can we at least remove the Accepted Solution status?

Re: Problems With MacBook Pro 16"

@RouenSims

Don't worry about the thread saying it's solved, it's not. The title clearly has WORKAROUND in it which is more important at this point because the marked solution is a workaround that has helped most players. This thread is far more useful with everyone posting in it who has the same issue, because it is all the same problem - there is something not working properly with the game on 16" MacBook Pros which have specific GPUs.

46 pages in and everyone is still reporting the same issues - repeated crashing and glitching and San Myshuno is the most problematic world on these model Macs. All the info you provide is really helpful and if you find a workaround that works for you please post it to help others Standard smile

Crash when chosing build mode

★★★★★ Novice

I did the recent update and added a new expansion pack (Romantic Garden). Yesterday I got weird glitches with a giant black triangle from the ceiling to the floor in build mode when I spin the property to a view from the left side. Eventually the game crashed last night. When I tried to get back on today the menu loads, the map loads but it lags out after you chose a property for build mode, then crashes. Will still run on game play (not build) but is lagging a bit when it loads the game.

I'm running w more than enough everything for specs so it's not a hardware issue. Tried running a repair on the game a few times. Tried complete shut down and restart too. [Macbook pro 2019 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9 AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB]

The only thing that seems to remotely address this that I could find here was a thread about how some expansion packs were glitchy due to some changes by Apple in April '20. Got me wondering if the install of Romantic Garden was the problem? Replies seemed to indicate I needed to delete EVERYTHING and reinstall. Hoping that is not the fix?

Thanks!

@Bluebellflora I tried doing some research into these MacBooks crashing in general. All the people who commented had the 32GB memory option. I have the 32GB memory option too. I wonder if that might be a clue -- something about the memory causing trouble?

Edit: The memory thing may be irrelevant. I think I'm onto something else now! I had the resolution set at a lower level than the native resolution. I changed the game resolution to 3072x1920, moved my Sim around for a minute, and then exited while he was in San Myshuno. The game exited properly, and Origin exhibited no weird behaviors at all!

Edit: I went back into my original save, and the game still crashed in the Fashion District. However, Origin is now acting as expected.

I recommend changing the resolution as a possible solution for some people.
